This project promotes responsible water management through community engagement in Guangxi Province in Southern China.
Who are we?
The Water Stewardship project
The water stewardship project was launched to create shared value to local villagers, Stora Enso, Kemira and the local government.
This project brings together Kemira’s know-how on water management, Stora Enso’s expertise on tree plantation management, and local communities’ practical knowledge and experiences related to water issues in Guangxi.
On this blog, we will share our experiences on the project. We are hopeful that the practices and solutions developed could go beyond this pilot program and become implemented on a larger scale in the future.
A baseline study of water resources completed
To kick off the project together with the local villages we carried out a baseline study of water resources in the area around Stora Enso’s operations.
Challenges were identified and the plan was created to address local concerns for example on water quality, groundwater levels and the possible impacts of tree plantations on water. Read more about the study results.
